Cinque Terre
Set in rugged portion of the coast on the Italian Riviera, Cinque Terre is truly Italy’s treasure that became a UNESCO World heritage site in 1997. Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore are five higgledy-piggledy villages of Cinque Terre known for olive groves and dry-stone-walled vineyards. Noted for its beauty, cars and motorbikes are not allowed in the villages. The ‘five lands’ is well connected by train from La Spezia, electric buses and ferry.
National park status has protected Cinque Terre’s villagers’ well-being. At the restaurants, travellers can taste the area’s white wines, freshly caught fish and sweet local lemons. Since located on the Mediterranean, you can find plenty of seafood in local cuisine. For accommodation, the numerous villagers offer rooms on rent to tourists. The accommodation booking offices is located in Riomaggiore.
The five villages are connected by a walking trail, known as Sentiero Azzurro. The trial is more than 600 meters and the length is more than 10 km. It takes approximately 5 hours to walk it. In Cinque Terre there are wonderful romantic restaurants down by the sea where you should not miss dining. Just make sure that you are prepared to drag your bags for miles over uneven stone streets in Cinque Terre as cars are not allowed.
